Collide-O-Scope Edutainment
Company and Mission
Collide-O-Scope Edutainment is a family-run business that seeks to blend three areas of human life into new ways to learn, grow, and have fun. Through playing games and completing activities, children of all ages experience a blend of Faith, Education, and Fun! In each of our games, we try to make sure that at least one of those three standards is being met—whether a game is fun and educational, faith-based and educational, fun and faith-based, or whatever combination, at least two of the three must be met. We pull from the past, look at the present, and plan for the future. This is where faith, education, and fun collide.

Why Edutainment?
We know how hard it can be to be motivated to do schoolwork (or to motivate the child to do schoolwork), but we also know how big an impact edutainment can make--especially on a child's mind. We aim to create games that, when played, help the child to learn important lessons in school subjects (math, english, science, etc.) and in life-application subjects (sharing, taking turns, being respectful, etc.). I, Kevin Elliott, have noticed that, through my years of education, games have had the longest lasting impact on me. I am quite a video game junky (or at least, I used to be--life has picked up its pace, recently), so I enjoy playing video games as often as possible. I recall a video game for the old Windows OS (that's operating system), called Treehouse, that was full of educational elements and had a huge impact on my life. As I grew up, the games available for purchase became less and less educational, and more and more violent and secular. One day it hit me that if I learned how to make video games (or board games, card games, or any game, really), but made them as educational (or even moreso) as Treehouse, the next generation could be twice as prepared for life as my generation was/is. Thus, the idea of an edutainment company was born. I emphasized video game development for a few years, working to learn how to put everything together. In one of my online college courses, I learned about Hnefatafl (basically, Viking Chess--which we will soon be selling), searched for other Viking games, and found Kubb. We played both, loved them, and then realized what we can do as a part of the edutainment wave with what we have now. Reivers was soon inspired by Kubb and we've been receiving inspirations since then for new games. Games have the potential to be one of the best teaching tools available, so we decided that we wanted to utilize this fact and make a difference for this and future generations. If we can make games so that when they are played, the players are having a great time but don't realize they're actually learning (until the subject comes up in school and they SOMEHOW know the answer), that would be amazing and very helpful to the many students who find it difficult to want to learn. Learning usually has a negative connotation as it means studying, testing, going to school in the early morning, etc. One of our main goals is to help students overcome this stereotype by playing games that help them learn while they have fun. Someday we may be able to finish the dream of developing video games (I had several really good ideas I wanted to finish), but for now, we will emphasize family games, card games, board games, and mind games that inspire, educate, and strengthen faith--all while they're having fun.
